Summary and explanation of kit
OMNIgene•SKIN collection kit provides the materials and instructions for stabilizing microbial DNA from a skin sample.
Procedure: For optimal results, do not wash or apply cosmetics (makeup, cream, etc.) on the area to be swabbed for at least 5 hours prior to collection.
IMPORTANT: Before beginning, read the label on the outer packaging of the kit for the specific body site to be sampled.
IMPORTANT! Collect only from the skin location indicated on the packaging label.
Locate the Wetting solution and the OMNIgene collection tube. Remove the OMNIgene collection tube from its packaging. Set both tubes aside on a clean surface for later use.
Locate the swab and open the packaging from the handle end.
IMPORTANT:
Do NOT touch the
swab tip or hold the swab above
the break point.
Locate the Wetting solution tube and carefully remove the blue cap. Immerse the entire swab tip into the Wetting solution. Discard any remaining Wetting solution and tube. Immediately proceed to step 4 to avoid letting the swab dry.
To ensure a successful collection, apply generous pressure on the swab tip. Using a back and forth motion, rub the entire area to be sampled for a total of 60 seconds, rotating the swab at least once.
IMPORTANT:
The swab will bend significantly
during this step but will NOT break.
While holding the swab handle in one hand, carefully unscrew the white cap from the OMNIgene collection tube.
IMPORTANT:
Do NOT spill the stabilizing liquid in the OMNIgene collection tube.
Do NOT touch the swab tip to any other surface.
Immediately insert the swab into the bottom of the OMNIgene collection tube and snap the shaft off at the break point. Discard the handle.
While pressing downward, tightly screw the white cap back onto the OMNIgene collection tube. The sample is ready to be sent to the kit provider following their instructions.
