In celebrating its 20th anniversary, DNA Genotek is offering a series of research grants to stimulate innovative research in both human genomics and microbiome. DNA Genotek intends to provide three (3) research grants of (up to) $30,000 USD in support of the below research challenge areas plus (up to) 200 DNA Genotek human genomics and/or microbiome collection kits for use with the project.
The DNA Genotek Innovation Challenges Grant Program will reward scientists who are using DNA Genotek’s human genomics or microbiome products to accelerate the advancement of genetics and/or microbiome to gain knowledge to address problems in one of the 4 identified research challenges below:
Research challenges:
Challenge: multiomics/systems biology
How would you utilize a multiomic approach to human health research? Design a study that combines the microbiome, human genomics, and phenotypic data from a well-defined patient population. The study should provide unique insights, not achievable by examining one ‘ome’ in isolation. The study should also demonstrate the power of a systems biology approach to a problem while leveraging DNA Genotek human genomics and microbiome products for sample acquisition in order to promote diversity in the study group, and/or enable access to under-represented populations.
Challenge: recruitment
DNA Genotek’s mission is to enable high quality discovery and diagnostics at scale. We’ve created products to collect high quality biospecimens from the corners of the globe – from anyone, anytime and anywhere. But to help realize the dream of personalized medicine, we need to make it easier for investigators to conduct truly inclusive studies that accurately represent stakeholder populations. This challenge is designed to more meaningfully connect the investigator to study subjects. The study should leverage DNA Genotek human genomics and/or microbiome products for sample acquisition. In your proposal to this challenge, describe how your tool or approach will:
In addition to the award value, winner(s) of this challenge will be eligible to receive support from DNA Genotek’s Product Management, Marketing and/or R&D teams to help validate the concept and/or recruitment campaigns.
Challenge: tools and techniques
Can you develop tools, models, techniques that illuminate the truth and promote reproducible research? A key product development principle at DNA Genotek is to eliminate artifacts and bias wherever possible. The objective of this challenge is to design a tool or technology that enables more accurate and reproducible results in genomics or metagenomics. Your solution should:
Challenge: choose your own challenge
Want to create your own research grant idea? Is there a genomics or microbiome research niche in which you can make a difference? Tell us what you think is holding back progress in microbiome or genomics research and how you’ll solve it. The sky’s the limit.
Application deadline: 12:00 PM ET, (GMT -4) on July 10, 2018
