Description of Services
As your premier scientific partner, we provide a comprehensive list of genomic solutions to meet your research needs. Our facilities feature Sanger and next-generation sequencing technologies, providing the highest throughput sequencing capacity in the world. Powered by 137 Illumina HiSeq 2000 instruments and 27 Applied Biosystems SOLiD 4 Systems, we provide high-quality sequencing results with industry-leading turnaround time. Our high-performance supercomputing facilities (with a total of 102 Tflops, 20 TB of memory, and 10 PG of storage) and bioinformatics center (with 1000 professionals) provide the hardware and software tools and analysis capabilities to support genomics research, eliminating the next-generation sequencing analysis and data processing bottleneck for our customers.
Applications: With the diverse analytical technologies now available, we can focus the full spectrum of multi-omics methods on the important research questions that impact agriculture and human health. BGI is deeply committed to supporting multi-omics research by providing our deep sequencing and analytical resources to our collaborators and clients.
Human Disease Research: See how we have built upon human genome research using next-generation sequencing technologies to study human health and disease in areas such as cancer, Mendelian disease, genetic and epigenetic analysis, and pathway research.
Agriculture: Learn about our application of next-generation sequencing to plant and animal research where we have sequenced the whole genome of numerous plants and animals and identified markers and functional genes that contribute to the study of molecular breeding, agriculture production, and conservation.
Drug R&D: Explore the many next-generation and related technologies offered by BGI. See how they can accelerate discovery and selection of new drug targets and candidate compounds, as well as provide important data throughout the drug-development life cycle.
Description of Services
Genetic Repositories Australia (GRA) is a national genetic repository for DNA and cell lines derived from appropriately consented disease-specific and population-based studies. GRA has been supported by an NHMRC Enabling Facility Grant and is based at the Prince of Wales Medical Research Institute (POWMRI).
GRA provides researchers with a central facility for the processing, long-term secure storage and distribution of human genetic samples (DNA and cell lines). This includes the production and provision of immortalised lymphoblast cell lines and DNA samples.
GRA service requests currently cover cell line establishment and DNA extraction from human whole blood, saliva (Oragene), cell lysates and cultured cells.
