DNA Genotek Wins Top 100 Private Companies in North America
OTTAWA, Ontario, Canada, May 11, 2005 / – DNA Genotek announced today that it has been selected as one of Red Herring's Top 100 Private Companies in North America. In the fifteen months that the company has been selling its Oragene•DNA™ DNA Self-Collection Kit, DNA Genotek has shipped the product to more than 1000 health researchers in 46 countries across the globe. The company attributes its success to "an excellent product, customer focus and devotion, and a rapidly growing market need for easy, reliable, and cost-effective DNA sample collection" said Ian Curry, president and CEO of DNA Genotek.
Many new advances in healthcare are founded on genetic research. Already, genetic testing enables proactive management of many serious ailments, such as breast and colon cancer. Genetic research and testing are expected to continue revolutionizing the way health conditions and diseases are diagnosed, treated and prevented, resulting in major improvements to global healthcare. All of these advances start with the collection and analysis of one essential resource – DNA.
Using an innovative and practical approach, DNA Genotek developed an easy, reliable and cost-effective method for collecting DNA. The Oragene•DNA DNA Self-Collection Kit, which collects and preserves DNA from saliva, allows researchers to quickly and easily obtain DNA samples from large populations of people, thus accelerating their research efforts.
Red Herring's lists of private companies recognizes new and innovative technology companies and entrepreneurs. Companies like Google and eBay were spotted in their early days by Red Herring editors as those that would change the way we live and work. The list is based on a rigorous selection process that evaluates financial data as well as other subjective criteria, including quality of management, execution of strategy, and dedication to research and development. "Innovation and entrepreneurship are thriving. The companies on this list are proof," said Red Herring editor-in-chief Joel Dreyfuss.
"DNA Genotek is delighted to be a recipient of the Red Herring Top 100 Private Companies in North America Award. As a start-up company, we have focused our resources on strategic sales, marketing and R&D initiatives. These tactics have allowed us to achieve rapid growth and global penetration," said Mr. Curry. "We owe many thanks to our wonderful customers in top-tier health research facilities around the world who have changed their DNA collection method to Oragene•DNA."
